Editing the Items

To edit the items your player will interact with through their journey, you'll want to click the 'Edit Items' button from the main menu.

With a new game, there are no pre-defined items. It will be up to you to decide what your game will include, and where they'll initially be located.

To create a new Item, start by entering an unused ID in the ID box (or click the "+" sign to insert the next available Item ID). Next, in the "WORDS" box, this is what the player will typically refer to the object as. You're also encouraged to enter several variations when possible. To enter multiple "words" for an item, simply separate them with a semicolon ( ; ). Each "word" can also consist of multiple words, such as "gold key", etc. For something like that, we might enter "key;gold key" for Words so that the game can recognize this item by either the word "key" or "gold key". (If you decide to create other keys, the game will *normally* be able to determine what the player is talking about even if they just refer to "key". In the event that multiple "key"s could be inferred, such as the player holding a silver key and a gold key, it will prompt them to be more specific)

Once you've got the words in place, you'll want to enter a very short description in the 'Name' area-- For our Gold Key, we would probably enter something like "a Gold Key", "a Golden Key" (but we would also want to add "golden key" as a word for it!), etc.

Then you'll need to decide where this item will exist when the game starts-- Either it isn't created yet (so not available anywhere), carried by the player, worn by the player, or in a specific location. (If you're wondering why you would define an item as "Not Created", you can bring these into the game via the Player and Automatic Actions, later on).

For the Description, you'll want to enter a little more wordy description of what the item is, for when the player specifically looks at the item. (ie, "By the scratches on the surface, it would appear this Golden Key is not merely ornamental.")

Finally, for the new item, you'll need to tell the game if this item is something that can be taken or worn, by checking the appropriate boxes. (Our key in this example can be taken, but can not be worn.)

Once that's done, click the 'Add/Update Item' button to save this item's info.

To edit a previously created item, simply select it from the Current Items menu, then click Edit Item. To delete an item, select it then click 'Delete Item.' Once you're done with your items, click Return to Menu to get back to the main menu.
