... ...It really depends on what you're wanting to learn how to program... Any language preferences? Microsoft or Unix/Linux based? And for web apps, DirectX/desktop apps, etc? Once you've got an idea of the "realm" you want to start in (most notably, Microsoft or "the rest of the civilized world"), and what you'd like to start developing (ie, programming Quake or Fiefdom is a bit different from a word processor or the next IM client)... ... ...As far as tech books for game development, the market is pretty limited - Java Game Programming (or something like that) was the only decent book I could ever find on the subject. For other topics, I also tend to like the 'Teach yourself ... in 21 Days' books & the "Core [whatever]" series to a lesser extent... Of course, the internet probably serves as the best resource... ...
